Constitutive Modelling of AZ31B-O Magnesium Alloy for Cryogenic Machining

چکیده
The success of a FE model for metal cutting process is strongly dependent on the accurate characterization of the workpiece material, under similar conditions as those found in metal cutting. In this paper, dynamic shear tests using a Gleeble machine have been performed on 4 mm thickness disks of AZ31B-O magnesium alloy, using a special designed tool. In order to include the effects of the cryogenic cooling in the material behavior, the specimens have been submitted to temperatures ranging from -25oC to 400oC. A Johnson-Cook constitutive model has then been identified in order to describe the flow stress in machining. © 2013 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. Process Mechanics and Surface Integrity Induced by Dry and Cryogenic Machining of AZ31B-O Magnesium Alloy
The corrosion resistance of magnesium alloys depends mainly on its surface integrity. Previous experimental studies have shown that machining can induces small (nano-scale) grain size, compressive residual stresses and basal plane crystallographic texture, which significantly improve the corrosion resistance of magnesium alloy. These studies have focused on the positive effects of cryogenic coo...
متن کاملPrediction of corrosion rate of AZ31B magnesium alloy under salt fog environment in NaCl solution
Magnesium alloys have gained considerable interest as a material for automotive and aerospace applications due to its low density, high specific strength, and good castability. However, another considerable issue is their corrosion properties. This restricts their practical applications. In this present research, corrosion behavior of the AZ31B magnesium alloy was evaluated by conducting salt f...
متن کاملA comparative study on constitutive modeling of hot deformation flow curves in AZ91 magnesium alloy
Modeling the flow curves of materials at elevated temperatures is the first step in mathematical simulation of the hot deformation processes of them. In this work a comparative study was provided to examine the capability of three different constitutive equations in modeling the hot deformation flow curves of AZ91 magnesium alloy. For this, the Arrhenius equation with strain dependent constants...
متن کاملMicrostructure and Corrosion Behavior of Laser Welded Magnesium Alloys with Silver Nanoparticles
Magnesium alloys have gained increased attention in recent years in automotive, electronics, and medical industry. This because of magnesium alloys have better properties than aluminum alloys and steels in respects of their low density and high strength to weight ratio. However, the main problems of magnesium alloy welding are the crack formation and the appearance of porosity during the solidi...
